The Hidden Door: Lyrics |
| |
| The Hidden Door, track 1: Leaving the Shire |
|
Autumn is nigh, with the rising harvest moon
Seasons run by, and we must be leaving soon
Fate has called to those who brave would be
Winds of change whisper to the heart anew
Down paths and lanes our fortunes we pursue
Fate has called to those who brave would be
High hope and courage lead us on into the unknown
Farewell to days of youth we now have forever outgrown
Though may the spirit of out youth be ever shown
Called to our task, our course ahead agreed
Loath to ask where the journey will us lead
Fate has called to those who brave would be
Off now we go flying with the wayward breeze
Sun sailing low, hear the wind rush in the trees
Brave travelers fare ye well as you rise to meet your call
And seek the way

| The Hidden Door, track 2: Where Beauty Dwells |
|
1. One early summer morning
I walked among the trees
Enticed by sound and colour
Caressed by a gentle breeze
I came upon a waterfall
I felt that I’d been drawn
And as I listened to its flow
It seemed to sing a song
Chorus
Dreams are made where beauty dwells
Come linger here a time
The spirit’s reawakening
Is here for you to find
2. I walked again to sunlit glades
Where butterflies were playing
And on to meadows beckoning
And windy fields a-swaying
And then upon a hill I stood
The sun was westering
And so it seemed that to my heart
The sky began to sing
Chorus
Dreams are made where beauty dwells
Come linger here a time
The spirit’s reawakening
Is here for us to find
Instrumental
3. And as the sun descended
A breeze began to blow
I turned to make the journey home
Amid the evening glow
With thoughts of home and waiting bed
I walked beneath the stars
And filled with quiet peace of mind
Again I heard afar
Chorus
Dreams are made where beauty dwells
Come linger here a time
The spirit’s reawakening
Is here for you to find
Dreams are made where beauty dwells
Come linger here a time
The spirit’s reawakening
Is here for us to find

| The Hidden Door, track 4: A King there Was |
|
A king there was in days of old
With might and wealth so great
Enchanted realm protected
About the Thousand Caves
There songs were sung and legends held
In Thingol’s hidden halls
And golden cups and jewels untold
His crown of silver tall
But all these things he did love less
than one maid exceeding fair
A daughter had he Luthien
In Doriath’s wood to care
Her mother was Queen Melian
Of immortal line and wise
Her robes were blue as summer sky
But evening grey her eyes
Such lissom limbs no more shall run
No fairer maid shall be
On our green earth ‘tween dawn and dusk
From moon to endless sea
Her feet were light as bird on wing
Dark shadowed was her hair
The fragrance of a flowering mead
Her laughter ringing fair
They dwelt amid Beleriand
Held fast by Elven might
In the woven woods of Doriath
Where few dared to set sight
But north there lay a land of dread
O’er hills of shadow cold
Where deadly nightshade lurked and lay
Within that haunted hold
In Doriath she danced and in dell
To music Daeron wrought
As daylight melted into shade
In wandering music caught
A King there was in days of old...

|
1. Under her enchantment
Before I could resist
Her eyes of blue and hair so red beguiling
But faeries are elusive
As everybody knows
Still I won’t forget the vision of her smiling
2. Watching as she dances
To the music of the harp
As the moon above the forest watches over
The spirits of the ancient ones
Are summoned by the song
And Aphrodite sighs in sweet emotion
Chorus
Out in Arizona
I was taken by surprise
There was music in her movement
And magic in her eyes
Crystals on the dashboard
Flashing rainbows in the sun
There’s an elf down in Sedona
Full of love for everyone
3. Under the ancient stars
She sings a poem from the soul
We’re driving in the night along the highway
And somehow time’s suspended
As she gives this gift to me
The wind above the forest is sighing
Instrumental
Chorus
Out in Arizona
I was taken by surprise
There was music in her movement
And magic in her eyes
Crystals on the dashboard
Flashing rainbows in the sun
There’s an elf down in Sedona
Full of love for everyone

| The Hidden Door, track 8: To the Woody End |
|
Instrumental intro
There are trees and sweet smelling roses
All the time in the world
There the door to weariness closes
Far from all
There is rest for peace loving people
Let the world pass you by
Time to rediscover our senses
Breathe a sigh
Heal the cares, the pain and the sorrow
Let them fade in the sun
In this place where hopeful tomorrows
Have begun
And then like a treasure forgotten
Like a long lost refrain
There’s a quiet happiness growing
Once again
Chorus
Take me there to the Woody End
For if it calls, you belong
Making our way
To the Woody End
And if you care, come along
Instrumental
Take the winding road to your dreams
Hills of green, vales between
Far from where we have been
We’ll sit by a stream
In woodland serene
Far from where we have been
We’ll sit by a stream
In woodland serene
Heal the cares, the pain and the sorrow
Let them fade in the sun
In this place where hopeful tomorrows
Have begun
There are trees and sweet smelling roses
All the time in the world
There the door to weariness closes
Far from all, far from all
Chorus
Take me there to the Woody End
For if it calls, you belong
Making our way to the Woody End
And if you care, come along
Come along

| The Hidden Door, track 9: Dying Embers |
|
The beautiful picture
With colour so real
That I once stood before
Is fading in my memory
I try to remember
How it made me feel
But it’s getting harder to do
As time goes on
The beautiful song
With a melody pure
That I once loved so well
Is fading in my mind
I try to remember
Though I’m not really sure
Now just how it went
This is what I find
Like dying embers
And fading echoes
Weakening reflections of the dream
A door to being real
Is slowly closing
A dying anthem
A fading theme
The beautiful story
With a meaning so deep
That I once loved so well
Is harder to recall
My mind is so clouded
It’s so easy to sleep
How can something so big
Become so very small?
Like dying embers
And fading echoes
Weakening reflections of the dream
A door to being real is slowly closing
A dying anthem
A fading theme
And isn’t this the way it is
With this world that we live in?
The promise of the future
That we had in the past
Has been lost
In the present time
Out of heart
Out of mind
They don’t come as often
As they once did before
The questions of life
The challenges and mysteries
They don’t come a-knocking
They don’t call at my door
But then again
I’m seldom at home any more
Any more

| The Hidden Door, track 10: Beruthiel |
|
Hear a tale of sorrow
A tale of love and hate
Of the Sea-King’s queen nefarious
And of her tragic fate
King Tarannon she married
For reasons now unknown
And lived in Fair Osgiliath
Despite a heart of stone
No child could she deliver
‘Tis said none could endure
And more to brooding she would turn
Her darkness none could cure
No colours would she tolerate
Clad but in black and grey
The sea she hated most of all
And shunned the light of day
Beruthiel, Queen Beruthiel
Thy shadow and thy beauty
All men fear
Beruthiel, Queen Beruthiel
Gone mad with all the whisperings you hear
And in her lonely chambers
She kept her only pride
Her cats with which she gathered news
Nine black and one of white
They prowled about the city
Her slaves amid the gloom
A-spying on the unsuspecting
Dwellers in each room
Dark secrets she collected
Her cats all men did curse
The very air was poisonous
With treachery and worse
The king was under pressure
To rid them of the spies
E’er even he was overcome
With rumours, tales and lies
And so the queen was taken
And all her green-eyed slaves
And lashed aboard a vessel tall
Her withered heart ablaze
The north wind was a-howling
Drowning out her dying raves
Last seen beneath a sickle moon
Adrift upon the waves
Beruthiel, Queen Beruthiel
They shadow and they beauty
All men fear
Beruthiel, Queen Beruthiel
Gone mad with all the whispering you hear

| The Hidden Door, track 11: The Hidden Door |
|
There’s a land, there is a country
Full of wonder full of play
Only children hear its music
Only they have found the way
There’s a shore and there’s a harbour
That’s too distant to our mind
Because often now the nearest place is the hardest one to find
There’s a light, there is a lantern
That is darkness to the lost
With suspicion it’s regarded
It cannot melt this frost
There’s a light, there is a radiance
And it’s right before our eyes
But only eyes that open
Can see and recognize
Chorus
Have you found the treasure
That the foolish ones call worthless
Or the beauty that so many now ignore
Have you made discoveries
On a path that’s seldom travelled
Have you found the secret key
To the hidden door
To the hidden door
There is strength and there is courage
That is weakness to the proud
It cannot be understood by those
Who follow with the crowd
There’s a quiet kind of wisdom
That is drowned out by the din
Taste the water in the fountain
Now let the dance begin
Chorus
Have you found the treasure
That the foolish ones call worthless
Or the beauty that so many now ignore
Have you made discoveries
On a path that’s seldom travelled
Have you found the secret key
To the hidden door
To the hidden door
Instrumental
There’s a taste, there is a sweetness
That is bitter to the mule
Like honey and ambrosia
In the evening breezes cool
There’s a love that is redeeming
Often hidden ‘neath a veil
Why do we who need it so much
Hide our faces from this Grail
Chorus
Have you found the treasure
That the foolish ones call worthless
Or the beauty that so many now ignore
Have you made discoveries
On a path that’s seldom travelled
Have you found the secret key
To the hidden door
Have you found the secret key
To the hidden door
To the hidden door
